Professional Wedding Photography vs. Amateur

Almost every couple that gets married wants to have their wedding photographed so that they can forever remember their special day. Finding the right photographer is important for making sure that your wedding photos come out well so that you can always enjoy them. When it comes to hiring a wedding photographer, there are many things that one must take into consideration. The first step is deciding whether or not you want a professional wedding photographer or an amateur.

When deciding on hiring a photographer, the first stop most people make is to a professional wedding photographer. It is assumed that just because they are a professional, they are the best and will ensure the couple will receive perfect wedding photos.

There are many good reasons why someone many want to choose a professional wedding photographer. Most of these photographers have gone to school and studied for their profession, so they may have a great deal more knowledge of photography than an amateur would. A professional photographer will have an education in areas such as candid and posed shots, finding the perfect lighting, and other areas that can be important to taking the best possible picture.

The downside to hiring a professional photographer is that they are often quite expensive. Not only do they charge higher prices, but many will only sell set packages of pictures, meaning you may end up with a lot of shots you don`t even want. If you want to choose additional separate shots, you may have to pay extra for them as well.

The Pros and Cons of Hiring an Amateur Wedding Photographer

Once some couples have met with a few professionals, they may opt to meet with a few amateur wedding photographers, or they may already know one. Generally, the only difference between a professional wedding photographer and an amateur wedding photographer is the amount of schooling they have received. Amateur photographers often are self-taught, having learned the art themselves due to an interest in photography.

Just because a person is not considered a professional does not mean you should immediately discount them. While it is true that an amateur may not have that much experience in taking photos and you could end up with really bad shots, most amateurs have a great deal of knowledge and a natural knack for taking pictures. Because of this, you could very well end up with shots that are far better than any a professional wedding photographer could provide. And of course since they are not professionals, they often charge much lower rates and offer more flexible options for you to choose your pictures.

Whether you choose to hire a professional wedding photographer or an amateur, before signing any papers and sealing the deal, make sure you meet with your photographer a few times and get a good feel of who they are and how they work. Ask to see references from people they have worked for, and examples of their work. These two things can go a long way in helping you decide just who you should hire.
